@dividedbyfriday just dropped a video for the title track from their EP Prove It.

as far as i’m concerned, divided by friday is making big steps for such a young group. solid musicianship, good writing, and confident vocals usually add up to success, and i’m hoping the best for these guys. frontman jose villanueva has vocal traces of ryan dominguez [of Tokyo Rose] and of course, pat stump. some say he’s got a bit of brendon urie going as well, but i’m not quite so familiar with panic!.

the 4 piece is on hopeless records working on a full-length, or that’s what i hear. definitely looking forward.

check the video and tell me what you think. i think it’s a great start for a promising young act.

as an aside, it’s also always good to see some diversity. haha

a brand brand new lyric video from @yellowcard, Always Summer. i’m told this is the first single from the upcoming summer album.

yellowcard has always been a workhorse band, and the fact that they reunited less than a year ago and already have a full length, an acoustic version, quite a few excellent music videos, and another album in the works is more than can be said of a lot of other groups.

i’m pretty excited where yellowcard goes. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes was an amazing, amazing album considering the guys hadn’t been together in a few years, and this looks to be a similarly strong second-sophomore effort. alright ryan…show me what you’ve got.

edit: i forgot to say. i am SO glad the violin work has really been allowed to shine. it’s been one of the yellowcard staples, and sean mackin seems to get better with every new track.

cheers,

@linkinpark’s chester crushing adele’s rolling in the deep. i am 1000% sick of adele on the radio. she’s an amazing singer with a decent ability to pen songs, but the radio will end her career.

BUT. if anyone ever thought chester was only good for angry screams and a solid clean vocal at the helm of linkin park…here’s proof that he is a monster with a respectable voice. he may not be adele, but he is darn close. killer.

cheers.

HEY REMEMBER THIS?! bodyjar | not the same.

if you haven’t heard it before, you most likely never played tony hawk’s pro skater 3. i don’t know what the deal was, but tony hawk games just had some of the greatest and most underrated tunes. this was far and away one of my favorite songs, next to alien ant farm’s Wish.

aside from uncommon instruments [that flying V bass is awesome], super slick power pop punk built on decent vocals and a solid video to boot [considering the genre and the time] make for an unbeatable breakup song.

if you hadn’t heard it til now, you are WELCOME. happy friday!

cheers,

the latest @altpress issue [sleeping with sirens cover] has in the last article a comment about @relientk’s “who i am hates who i’ve been“….likened to a ben gibbard-sung sum 41 track. bummer. who i am… is easily, so easily one of the best tracks in the relientk catalog.

around the time of Two Lefts Don’t Make A Right… But Three Do, the old relientk known for goofy lyrics and 80’s and 90’s nostalgia transitioned out of adolescence and into one of the most fast-growing pop punk staples i’ve ever seen. song after song of witty, truthful lyrics layered comfortably over growing musicianship and expanded instrumentation made Mmhmm one of the greatest albums i’ve had the pleasure of owning. [i gave it to my then girlfriend, which converted her to a relientk fan. i miss it, and i miss her, but it was worth it.] topped with powerfully energetic live shows, relientk took growing up in stride.

after Mmhmm, two rock-solid albums have followed: Five Score and Seven Years Ago, and still the greatest breakup album of all time, Forget and Not Slow Down.

if you haven’t heard either of these, they are highly, highly recommended. this ohio five-piece hasn’t gotten where they are on power chords and cheesy lines. they’ve earned every screaming fan with 14 years of tireless writing, recording, touring, and honestly, just growing up.

the priceless acoustic version that altpress mentioned is here:

it’s every bit as good as they say. trust me.

the @gaslightanthem | 45. honestly, if you haven’t heard this…you’re missing out. definitely looking forward to the new album drop in a few weeks here.

the chorus is…phenomenal.

@twypoppunk this meme is already old, but this caption is so, so good haha.

in case you haven’t seen it [you probably have by now]. @craigowens reunites with @chiodos? THERE IS NO WORD ON WHETHER D.R.U.G.S. is over or not, and i think i read somewhere that craig wasn’t planning on calling it a day with them. there’s a vacancy at the helm of chiodos, and if anyone deserves it, it’s craig.

BREAKING NEWS ::: CRAIG OWENS + CHIODOS?

CHECK OUT THE RIDICULOUSLY SLOW LOADING @VIMEO CLIP THAT @CHIODOS JUST EMAILED OUT FEATURING CRAIGERY OWENS AND THE TRADEMARK CHIODOS C THAT MADE HIM A HOUSEHOLD NAME.

are you freaking kidding me. don’t get me wrong, i LOVE what he’s been doing with DRUGS [destroy rebuild until God shows, that is, not actual drugs. or maybe. i’m not one to judge.], but craig owens on home turf again now that brandon bolmer is out to pursue other things.

don’t get me wrong on this either, chiodos with brandon bolmer at the helm released one of the all-out STRONGEST post-hardcore albums i’ve ever heard. but craig is an entirely different beast. this is gonna be FREAKING SICK.

this is…@tdwpband’s Kansas.

literally, the greatest instrumental i’ve ever heard. the first time i played it i almost soiled myself during the sound byte, a sermon by paul washer on the judgment of God and the Great White Throne.

the sermon link is below if you want to listen in.

I would’ve been at Coachella in a heartbeat to see Cerie’s band.

fantastic show. cerie is far and away one of my favorite characters….and this is just good music.

band i’m absolutely floored to hear is dropping a new album in a few weeks: @mewithoutYou.
if you’ve never laid ears on a mewithoutYou track, it’s hard for me to say where to begin. claiming that the pennsylvanian four piece is a treasure whose work touches nearly every genre is somehow still an understatement. i can’t count the times i’ve said the only lyricist in modern music capable of going toe to toe with mwY frontman aaron weiss is brand new frontman jesse lacey.
i’ll admit, i have most of their back albums, but i haven’t heard much of it prior to 2006’s Brother, Sister. for what it’s worth, brother sister is a freakshow of talent. it took me a while to get used to aaron’s singy-talky-mumbly warble, but once i looked past it i found myself immersed in a sea of imagery and perfectly written lyrics. i can’t overstate it. weiss’ lyrics are, literally, perfect. sandwiched between the mindbendingly beautiful opener, Messes of Men and the unforgettable closer In a Sweater Poorly Knit, this is an album brimming with lush imagery and powerful spiritual reflections.
the 2009 follow up, It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All a Dream! It’s Alright! was not quite so much of what I expected coming out of Brother, Sister, but it was incredible nonetheless. first single The Fox, the Crow and the Cookie came with a whimsical video about…well, a fox, a crow, and a cookie [link below]. the album isn’t all ups though, following up with a sobering account of david’s last days in The Angel of Death Came to David’s Room. other highlights included the penultimate The King Beetle On the Coconut Estate, which sounds a bit ridiculous but is equal parts beautiful and majestic. it’s, again, hard to put into a few words what mewithoutYou is like.
anyways. mewithoutYou is releasing their next album, Ten Stories, which will be available on may 15th. it looks like there is some sort of preorder deal you can look into, but i’ll wait ;]
til then, cheers.
